Angi: Welcome José! Thank you for joining today. I'm excited to hear about your answers.

José: Hi, Angi. Thank you for having me. It's a pleasure to be here.

Angi: Perfect, let's dive into the first question - Can you describe where you live and what you like about that place?

José: At the moment I call Vorarlberg my home, though I originally come from the charming town of Loja in Ecuador. Both places share remarkable similarities, boasting breathtaking mountain views, abundant natural wonders, and a delightful community spirit. It's this familiarity that makes Vorarlberg feel at home. One of the things I love about this place is the incredibly friendly and supportive nature of its people. The locals here go above and beyond to extend a warm welcome and lend a helping hand, creating a wonderful and inclusive atmosphere that is genuinely heart-warming.JoséJaramillo_Portrait6

Angi: That's fascinating! It's the nature I love about my hometown. How does your hometown differ from Vorarlberg's?

José: One notable difference between my hometown and Vorarlberg lies in the overall atmosphere and societal dynamics. Architecturally, Vorarlberg showcases a consistent and harmonious style across buildings, creating a visually pleasing environment. On the other hand, in my hometown, where adherence to architectural guidelines is not strictly required, houses often prioritize high-security features, leading to appear somewhat bunker-like. Moreover, the difference in the crime rate between the two places has effects on the communities. In Vorarlberg, a relatively lower criminal rate contributes to a sense of safety and trust among the people. In contrast, we have a more cautious approach when meeting new people, leading to a longer time to develop new friendships and build trust.

Angi: What do you like the most about your Loja?

José: What I appreciate the most about my city is the strong sense of belonging that comes from having my family and old friends here. The presence of loved ones creates a comforting and supportive environment, making it truly feel like home. Additionally, the culinary delights of the city hold a special place in my heart. Nostalgia-induced favourites such as "Papas del Soda" (French fries in a cup), "Cecina de Doña Orfelina," and "Guatita" are dishes that I eagerly look forward to tasting on each visit.

Angi: Tell me a bit about some interesting aspects of your career.

José: Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to engage in diverse and compelling facets. My educational journey took me through Electronics Engineering in my hometown and later, AI and Robotics studies in Italy, granting me a broad spectrum of skills and expertise. From my training in my home country, I acquired a determined can-do attitude while my experiences in Italy instilled in me deep scientific methodologies to approach challenges with utmost precision.

When asked about my passion, I often respond with a simple answer: "Solving problems." This inherent drive has led me to explore various industries. I am proud to be a part of Identec Solutions, where the guiding motto is "because it works" - a phrase that closely resonates with my approach to challenges and solutions.

Angi: Very interesting that you studied AI and Robotics! Speaking of Identec Solutions, what do you do here, and when did you start?

José: At Identec Solutions, I hold the formal title of "Embedded Firmware Engineer", wherein my primary responsibility involves writing code for microcontrollers. However, I view my role as more than just that; I consider myself a technical solution-finder. This mindset allows me the flexibility to explore beyond traditional embedded coding and propose innovative, out-of-the-box solutions to various challenges.

I joined Identec Solutions exactly one year ago and am delighted to be celebrating my first anniversary with the company this month. It has been a fulfilling journey so far, and I look forward to continuing to contribute my skills and creativity to the team's success.

Angi: What do you like the most about your job?

José: One aspect I truly cherish about my job is the freedom it offers to explore alternative technical solutions. This autonomy allows me to think outside the box and propose innovative approaches to problem-solving. I find great satisfaction in the creative process of finding unique solutions that go beyond conventional methods.

Additionally, I am fortunate to work alongside incredibly talented colleagues. Collaborating with skilled professionals creates an enriching and stimulating work environment. The collective knowledge and expertise within the team provide valuable opportunities for learning and growth.

Angi: Has there ever been a project or task where you couldn't find a solution?

José: Definitely. Especially when I tackle problems alone, I can get caught up in a narrow-box mindset that could be challenging to escape. However, as I become more experienced, I tend to work in closer collaboration with my colleagues, and since I do that, I can proudly say that WE have been able to solve even the hardest ones.

Angi: Everybody should get a "piece" of your inspiring mindset. Onto the next question. Do you have a guiding principle at work?

José: Yes, I firmly believe in the guiding principle of continuous improvement. I strive to embrace a growth mindset and constantly seek opportunities to enhance my skills and knowledge. This principle encourages me to remain open to feedback, learn from my experiences, and actively pursue professional development. By continuously refining my abilities and expanding my expertise, I can consistently deliver high-quality work and contribute to the overall success of the team and organization.

Angi: Being open to feedback is very important, and importantly "never take it personally". What is the most rewarding part of your job?

José: It is witnessing the impact and tangible results of my work. When I see the solutions I have developed make a positive difference, whether improving efficiency, enhancing functionality, or solving complex challenges, it brings a great sense of fulfilment.

Angi: At Identec Solutions, we have five core company values – Visionary, Open, Responsible, Leading and Global. Which one is the most significant for you, and how do you live it?

José: As an Embedded Firmware Engineer at Identec Solutions, the core value that holds the most significance to me is "Visionary." I embody this value by consistently thinking beyond the present and envisioning future possibilities. By staying abreast of the latest advancements in my field, actively proposing innovative ideas, and encouraging a forward-thinking approach within the team, I strive to inspire my colleagues to embrace a visionary mindset. By aligning our efforts with the company's strategic vision and anticipating long-term implications, we can drive innovation, adapt to market demands, and contribute to the overall growth and success of Identec Solutions.

Angi: Now for your time off. What do you do – any hobbies or passions?

José: In my free time, I have a range of hobbies and passions that I enjoy pursuing. During the winter months, I immerse myself in watchmaking, appreciating the intricate details and precision involved. Music also holds a special place in my heart, and playing the guitar allows me to tap into my creative side. As the summer rolls around, I find pleasure in cycling, not only relishing the physical activity but also taking joy in maintaining and optimizing my bicycle. Additionally, swimming provides a refreshing escape and promotes overall well-being. Engaging in these activities during my leisure time allows me to unwind, explore personal interests, and find a balance outside of work.

Angi: I genuinely appreciate your time, José, and your captivating journey in your career.

José: Thank you for asking such thought-provoking questions and allowing me to share my career path.
