Reefer Runner, the world’s most advanced terminal-based Reefer monitoring and management solution has been installed in 36 terminals worldwide. Now the Swiss logistics company Ultra-Brag has joined the ranks of Reefer Runner customers.

Lustenau, Austria – Since 2012, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS has been providing container terminals around the world with its customised wireless communication and localisation solutions. Due to Reefer Runner’s flexible application options, the world's largest terminals as well as smaller inland ports and barge fleets are equally satisfied users of the solution.

"Reefer Runner is currently used in 23 countries, which absolutely proves how international and diverse our business is. Our solution guarantees the undamaged transport of sensitive goods - such as medical or pharmaceutical products like vaccines - in the container terminals of the world's largest ports but also in smaller inland ports. In doing so, we contribute significantly to the value chain of terminal operators and logistics service providers," explains Urban Siller, CEO of IDENTEC SOLUTIONS AG.

For this reason, the Swiss logistics company Ultra-Brag AG from Basel has selected the Reefer Runner from Identec Solutions:

"We have set ourselves the goal of establishing a culture of continuous improvement. This includes systematically identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing the right measures. Reefer Runner allows us to monitor refrigerated containers at our sites in real time, so we can avoid interrupting the cold chain and manual monitoring is eliminated. This is not only increasing efficiency, but also minimises risk for us," says Thomas Knopf, CEO of Ultra-Brag AG.

"The Swiss market is very demanding in terms of product quality. That's why we are proud to have won Ultra-Brag AG for us", adds Siller.

Ultra-Brag currently employs 150 people and is a major player in the logistics sector thanks to its three sites at the Port of Switzerland. As the only transport service provider at the port, Ultra-Brag operates crane vehicles with capacities of up to 600mt and offers a direct link to the most important European transportation routes.

5G solutions for inland waterway transport

What is already common practice in the large container terminals inevitably becomes a standard in inland navigation too: The automated high-tech monitoring of reefer containers.

5G-capable solutions for more efficient and powerful communication are gaining ground in the logistics industry, as comprehensive connectivity plays a crucial role. The key to efficient transportation of reefer containers is seamless temperature monitoring of container cargo along the supply chain.

A prototype has already been in use for almost two years in inland waterway transport on the Rhine between Basel and Rotterdam:

"What used to require a major investment in terms of local radio infrastructure can now be offered as a cloud application without local infrastructure and local software installation. Customers will thus be able to monitor their refrigerated containers conveniently via devices of their choice such as PCs, notebooks, tablets and smartphones. Smaller companies will benefit from this and also the use in road and rail transport is conceivable," explains Siller.

The first 5G-capable solutions were already delivered in autumn 2020. Learn more about reefer container temperature monitoring.
